Okay. I’m not going to gloat. Gloating’s not a good look.
(Note the rhyme and reason between gloat and bloat; the nuance, if you will. Take note of it, if you can.)
Or don’t.
Either way, I’m moving on.
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind You could have done better but I don't mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But don't think twice, it's all right --Bob Dylan
Of course it’s easy for me to quote Bob Dylan. I haven’t lost anybody to Covid-19.
With the help of the good Lord and the strong business acumen of my husband, we have weathered 2020 pretty well, but that doesn’t mean we won’t reap the whirlwind that is to come. Or that we will reap it, for that matter.
That’s Que Sera, Sera, and it falls within the realm of providence, whether by chance or by God, or some combination of the two…
If I had a chance to counsel President Trump right now, I would tell him he still has a chance to leave with dignity.
I would tell him that he can have his cake, i.e., dignity and–by all means--he can eat it it. Absolutely, he can. And he can have just about any kind of cake he wants…
Except a second term as president cake. He can’t have that.
I would put it to the President like that if I could. And he might listen…I’m sure he likes cake…and I would add this:
You could potentially spark a Second Civil War, Mr. President. You could. Your base loves you that much. They’d do anything you tell them to. They adore you.
But you won’t do that, Mr. President. No. You won’t spark a Second Civil War. Because you love this country too much.
And because you love this country so much, you are going to live to fight another day. You are going to build another massive empire. A broadcasting empire. And that’s where you are going to wage war. For now.
Come 2024, all bets are off...
Now pack your bags and leave like a gentleman. Or don’t.
Either way, you’ll leave.
What’s wrong with waiting for the results? It’s not like Biden has to report at the office next Monday

Oh, I’m all in for counting votes. That’s what they are doing right now. But Trump has said that he “…knows the math is against him, that he won’t win. But he’s going to draw this out in the courts as long as he can.” That’s what he said. Hopefully things will blow through the courts and will know what we already know right now by early December. Biden wins the presidency. Meanwhile, the tension keeps getting ratcheted tighter and tighter.

It’s scary either we go…yea his people can cause trouble but on election night trouble was brewing if Trump won with some violent protests…It’s like either way we go something will happen… a lot of people will be angry…but yes…when it’s counted and he loses which is probable…he needs to accept it and move on….
Hope you have been doing well Pam…love the Dylan quote. Dylan has something for every occasion.

Thanks, Max. I’m doing well. Hope you are too.

Leave with dignity, or dragged out on camera, he still leaves behind a nation woefully divided by his rhetoric and lies. History will judge him for that, long after I am gone.
Best wishes, Pete.

History will–Lord willing–judge Donald Trump and it will probably be kinder to him than he deserves, Pete; American history, that is. That’s the way people bind up their wounds after a big fight. The victor can be merciful, perhaps too merciful, i.e., how the U.S. coddled the South all these years.
I say that, and I can say it, because I am Southern, but I still get bristled when I hear those who know nothing of the South denigrate us with snide superiority, though, intellectually and spiritually, I agree that the South brought this upon itself. Sins of the father–so to speak.

He doesn’t know the meaning of dignity. Never has, so I doubt he’ll depart with any class. As far as his loving the country, I ask where was all that love during the Vietnam War? As a Viet Vet I’m at a complete loss how so many veterans can support him.

Agreed. No class. No empathy. No love for anyone or anything besides himself. He’s a chicken shit, sorry for the language.
Thank you for your service, John.

I’m going to update my response to you, John. I was being crass. For the sake of our Country, I’m rooting for Trump to do the right thing. If he wants to challenge Georgia–any state that has a mandate of recount based on percentage–do it. It’s within his legal right, but don’t try to delegitimize the election as corrupt. Then, when the smoke clears and Biden is still President-elect, leave with dignity and grace, if not good will.

Trump and his cult aren’t Americans, they are nothing but trash and fascists. Just extremely ugly and vile POS. He’ll definitely will be leaving….not even the Supreme Court can save his bloated ass. He is done. The only question remains is how long will Putin let him live afterwards?

I understand where you’re coming from, Michael, but right now–believe it or not–I’m rooting for President Trump. I’m hoping that for his own sake and–most importantly–for the sake of our Country, he will do the right thing–that he will concede with dignity and grace. I’m praying for him.
But, yes, I’m very happy and I’m very relieved. Now I hope, Biden will thank everyone and then ask them to go back home. There’s a pandemic going on.

I have a feeling Trump is headed for a Putin engineered ending within 6 months after he leaves office. I don’t want that,I want him to face REAL justice, him and everyone of who served underneath him. They don’t deserve to be free for what they have done.

No. I don’t want that either. Personally, I think Putin will leak all the incendiary things they have on Trump–including the infamous tapes, videos, pictures, whatever they are.

I wish I had your sense of hope, Pam. It’s uplifting and energizing. But my sense of hope for the soon to be ex president is nil, basically because he hasn’t proven in any way, shape, or form that he cares about this country or the people in it, over and over again, with each incident of unpatriotic, xenophobic, narcissistic/paranoid behavior and actions. Part of me is with you 100%–for the sake of the people, the country, any possibility of growth and a positive future ahead of us–yes, yes, yes, you have a chance, D. Trump, to do the right thing. Not holding my breath…but I think you do have more faith than I do, Pam, at least in this. Your intent is inspiring, though, aiming toward higher things and higher hopes!

That’s our only hope. We have to meet in the middle and hope for the best. That doesn’t mean that we leave the progressive wing out in the cold. We must embrace them with respect, but we can’t ignore the more conservative wing within the Democratic Party either. We are out there–and when I say we, I’m talking about myself and those who are more center right in the Democratic Party. I believe there is a coalition that brought Biden to this moment and that coalition needs to be managed very democratically.

Inclusiveness and accord is the only possible response, the road to growth.
Hey, look at James Carville and Mary Matalin! Complete opposites in their political beliefs. Been married 27 years. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Great post 🙂 I think it is harder for some people to form a fair and balanced opinion of Donald Trump when one takes into account all the things he publicly said during the 2016 campaign trail and to some critics, his over-the-top tweets on twitter. Speaking of which, have you ever heard of the late great Wayne Barrett? He has continuously exposed Trump as far back as the 1970’s. Keep up the great work as always and here are two links to what I am talking about.

Frank Zappa would not have been surprised that someone like Donald Trump could get this far. He foresaw that the religious right would gain influence. “The Republicans are eaten by greed and the Democrats by envy of the Republicans”, he said.

I think Zappa said that a long time ago, during the Reagan era and he was right (if I’m right). There was a 12 year stretch where we were under Republican administrations. The Republicans got very greedy during those years. They thought the White House was theirs. They were shell shocked when Clinton got into office and that’s where the extreme vitriol between the parties of the modern era began. The Democrats were very envious of the Republicans at that time. And, yes, the Christian right became very powerful then. Their power has waned for years, but now you see the implosion and destruction of it due to their lemmings like march following not Jesus Christ, but Donald Trump–and following him off the cliff.

“Like lemmings who following him off the cliff …” That’s good, Pam! For me was never a politician in American history like Trump. He is pure ego. He’s the only person there is. Nothing else matters. His manner reminds me of Alfred Jarry’s “Ubu roi”.

Hey Pam, I do not know If you finished reading those links yet and while every new presidential era will have it’s problems, do you think that this Genesis song perfectly summed up The Trump era and just about every other presidential era in history? 🙂 Here is the link below and enjoy 🙂

I did read the articles, John. Interesting.
I’ve read quite a lot about Trump and I find the whole of it depressing. His life, from the beginning of it, has been so cut throat. He never had parents that gave him any semblance of unconditional love. He never got the affirmation of “you are my son and I love you, no matter what.” The affirmation he did receive came at a tremendous cost and it was transactional. It was “if you dislodge, crush and step over every person that is your way, then I will be proud of you.” That is what he learned and that is how he governs.
I always liked that Genesis video. Consequently, I’ve always been pretty jaded about politicians of any stripe. However, having lived through the Trump administration, I realize, now more than ever, how important it is that our political leaders have more than just a passing understanding of morality, ethics and government.
