Game Day Recap:Titans Beat Bills in a Bruiser — Titan Up(s) & Downs
Some of you who follow my blog may know that I enjoy football, i.e., the American version, the NFL. Actually, I don’t enjoy it. I love it.
In this regard I am a product of my environment. I grew up in Odessa, Texas, the setting of the Buzz Bissenger’s Pulitzer Prize winning non fiction book about high-school football, Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team and a Dream. (I have no interest in high school football whatsoever. College either. I attribute this to my environment as well.)
Anyway, for the last month or so I’ve been working on a new blog. And, yes, it’s about the NFL, the Tennessee Titans specifically. It’s called Titan Up(s) & Downs.
The blog title is a play on words. The phrase “tighten up”, that’s the Titans mantra, but it’s Titan Up…and there’s the song “Tighten Up” by Archie Bell and the Drells…and the ups and downs of a football season…and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th downs in football…and, whew! That’s a lot of ellipses!…
So here’s one of my posts. In addition every week I do an audio version of my game day recap so I’m including it too.
And by the way…please don’t feel pressured to follow my new blog, etc…I know a lot of people don’t like sports and some just don’t like football. I understand.
No really, believe me: I get it. I’m from Odessa, Texas, remember?
All Things Thriller 
Nice that you have the enthusiasm to support your team and write a blog about them. I once read that blogs about Baseball and American Football have the largest numer of followers online. I know absolutely nothing about American Football. I did start to watch a Superbowl once, shown on TV in England. But the game seemed to stop every few seconds, and I had little idea what was going on.
Hardly surprising, as I don’t even follow Football here, which you of course call Soccer. 🙂

As you probably know my first love is baseball…some question my southern dna because of that! I have been following the Titans because my cousin has got me watching them every Sunday and in this case…Monday. This was a huge win and I didn’t think they had much of a chance after seeing them lose to the Jets.

I know. Typical Titans. I won’t be surprised if they beat the Chiefs Sunday–Lord, willing–and then loose down the road to the struggling Jaguars. It’s baffling that they can’t get over the hump of beating teams they are supposed to beat–the so called trap game.

And a kicker…is it just me in the last few years…they can go out and get the best kicker but they will miss more field goals than usual? Derrick Henry is a pleasure to watch though.
Now if my Dodgers beat the Braves I’ll be happy.

Now how did you come to follow the Dodgers when everybody around here roots for the Braves? If your like me, I know the answer, at least partially…precisely because everybody around here roots for the Braves. Am I right? Ha! But that doesn’t explain why you root for the Dodgers.

My dad grew up with brothers who loved the Yankees and dad liked Brooklyn the underdogs with Jackie Robinson. Since 1977 I’ve been following them religiously so to speak. Oh I remember when the Braves had just 2000 fans show up at their park… and they started to win and everyone jumped aboard…not me…I’m loyal to my Dodgers. I do go down there when they play there.
I won a lot of money betting with co-workers in the 90s against the Braves…they only failed me once! in 1995.

Okay… I’m not a Braves fan. I like the Indians and the Yankees, but only casually. Sometimes my husband and I will watch the World Series.
I do like to watch live baseball. We’ve been meaning to go to a Sounds game in their new stadium. I use to ride my bike down there and it’s really nice. I hope we get a MLB team in Nashville. I’m all in if we do.

Oh that would be my biggest wish! A MLB team in Nashville…don’t get me wrong I would still be a Dodger fan first but I would root for the home team of course.
The Sounds new stadium is really cool…I loved Greer Stadium but it was on it’s last legs.

I have not followed sports in years. Way back when, I watched pro baseball, football and basketball and was a fan of the New York teams (Yanks, Giants and Knicks). As a kid, my father took me to a few Yankee games so I could see my childhood hero, Mickey Mantle, play. These days I could not name a player on any of those teams. Living in Tampa, you can’t help but know Tom Brady. Since he signed with the Bucs, the local media can’t get enough of him. Other than that, I don’t pay it all that much attention. Wishing you lots of luck with your new blog.

Thank you, John. You got to see Mickey Mantle play?! Amazing. I know you cherish that memory…I understand about drifting away from sports…for years my husband and I never watched football. Then in ’99 we got the Titans and all that changed. Our years long hiatus was over.
